Sevenoaks U14s Off to Madrid (2018-04-08) (2018-04-30)

Sevenoaks Town FC U14's will jet off to the Spanish capital next week for the tour of a lifetime as they spend five days at the famous Ciudad del Fútbol - the training facility of the Spanish national team.

The tour to Madrid is the latest in a series of trips abroad; in the last three seasons the team has travelled to Amsterdam to play in an international tournament, to Paris to play against PSG's Academy and most recently to Lisbon to play against Sporting Lisbon's Academy.

While in Madrid, the team will stay at Hotel Sefutbol which is part of the Ciudad del Fútbol training complex - the very same hotel will host the likes of De Gea, Iniesta, Costa and Piqué in just a few weeks as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The tour will include four training sessions with the Spanish national team's youth coaches  on some of the best natural and artificial pitches in the country and two friendlies against top La Liga academies.

In between training and matches, the team will do a stadium tour of the Santiago Bernabéu, spend some time exploring Madrid, take a look at the FIFA World Cup trophy won by Spain's victorious 2010 squad and also watch Athletico Madrid take on Levante.

The team's manager, Sam Lansdale, said: "The lads have made good progress this season and this tour will be a great way to round things off. The facilities and standard of coaching will literally be world class and the opposition awaiting us will involve some of the best youth players in Spain so the boys will need to work hard and focus. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great part of what we offer at Sevenoaks Town FC."

The team's five coaches will all be joining the tour to Madrid. Billy Thornton, who guided Bridon Ropes to three Kent Youth League cup finals and most recently won the Ryman Youth League with Tonbridge Angels, leads the coaching setup and is supported by a team of younger coaches including Jack Fordyce, Ryan Gallifant, Toby Branwhite and Tommy Taylor who each focus on a particular position so the players get detailed coaching in their respective roles.

After the team return from Madrid, they'll have six remaining league fixtures before the end of the season - a period which could also see the club's First Team get promoted to the Bostik League for the first time in the club's history.

The team will be looking to add high quality players to the squad over the summer and will be holding a series of trials in April and May. The squad trains twice a week on the newly laid 3G pitch at Greatness Park in Sevenoaks.
